I love matcha lattes for their smooth flavor and gentle caffeine boost, but sometimes I want something more filling.
That’s where this Strawberry Matcha Smoothie comes in. It’s creamy, energizing, and packed with protein from Greek yogurt, making it a great breakfast option.
Matcha’s earthy notes pair perfectly with the natural of strawberries, creating a balanced and refreshing drink. One day, I decided to blend matcha with frozen strawberries and banana, and the result was even better than I expected—smooth, satisfying, and just the right amount of sweet.
Whether you need a quick breakfast, an afternoon pick-me-up, or a post-workout refresher, this smoothie recipe is definitely worth a try!

What Makes This Strawberry Matcha Smoothie Special
Deliciously Balanced Flavor – The natural sweetness of strawberries and banana pairs perfectly with the subtle earthiness of matcha.
No Need to Sift or Whisk Matcha – Unlike traditional matcha drinks, there’s no need for a whisk or special preparation. Just add the matcha powder straight into the blender.
Quick and Easy – Just a handful of ingredients and a blender are all you need to whip up this smoothie in minutes.
Naturally Sweet & Wholesome – This smoothie is naturally sweet from fruit, with no need for added sweeteners. Plus, it provides protein from Greek yogurt and nutrients like vitamin C and potassium from strawberries and banana.
What You’ll Need for this Smoothie
For the best texture, make sure at least one of the fruits is frozen (it doesn’t matter which). If you want an extra thick smoothie, use both frozen strawberries and frozen banana (that’s what I do).
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Matcha powder
- Milk
- Greek yogurt
Strawberries (fresh or frozen) – Strawberries are naturally sweet and add vibrant flavor. Using frozen strawberries helps create a thick, creamy consistency without needing ice. If using fresh strawberries, make sure to use a frozen banana.
Banana (fresh or frozen) – Provides natural sweetness and a creamy texture. Use a really ripe banana with black spots on the peel—this means the starches have turned into sugars, making it sweeter. If using fresh bananas, make sure to use frozen strawberries.
Got an overripe banana headed for the trash? Don’t throw it away! Slice it into one-inch sections and freeze to make into smoothies later.
Matcha powder – Ceremonial-grade matcha is best for a smooth and less bitter flavor, but culinary-grade matcha works as well if you don’t mind a slightly stronger taste. Matcha provides a gentle caffeine boost and is packed with antioxidants.
I use this encha matcha powder.
Milk – The liquid base of the smoothie. Dairy or non-dairy options like almond, oat, or coconut milk work well. Keep in mind that different milk choices can subtly change the smoothie’s flavor.
Greek yogurt – Adds creaminess and a boost of protein, making the smoothie more filling. Plain Greek yogurt works best to keep the flavors balanced without adding extra sweetness. I skip flavored options like vanilla because they usually have added sugar.

Strawberry Matcha Smoothie Freezer Packs
Strawberry matcha smoothie freezer packs are a great way to save time on busy mornings.
Pre-measuring and freezing just the fruit means you can quickly blend a fresh smoothie when you’re ready. The liquid ingredients and matcha powder are added at the time of blending.
If you’re freezing your own banana, you can dip the ends in the measured out matcha powder before freezing. This eliminates one more step when making the smoothie, making prep even faster.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- For fresh fruit, lay it in a single layer on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes to an hour before transferring to a bag. Hull the strawberries, wash, dry, and cut them in half. Slice the banana into one-inch pieces. Freezing the fruit separately prevents large clumps that can be tough on blenders. If you’d like, sprinkle matcha onto the banana slices before freezing.
- In a freezer-safe bag or container, add frozen banana pieces and frozen strawberries.
- Store the freezer pack in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- When ready, add the contents of the freezer pack to a blender with milk, Greek yogurt, and matcha powder (if not frozen), then blend until smooth.
