Protein takes longer to digest, keeping food cravings at bay. That’s a big win if you’re watching what you eat!

Loaded with fiber-rich berries. Strawberries and blueberries are an excellent source of fiber which aids in digestion, something most of us don’t get enough of in our diets.

No added sugars. This smoothie gets all its sweetness from fruit. When you make it with plain Greek yogurt and opt for a milk sans added sugar, it’s completely possible to have a sweet fruit smoothie without added sugar.

How to Make a Blended Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

This make-at-home smoothie recipe has less than a handful of ingredients.

For convenience you can make it in a personal cup blender like my Ninja Nutri Pro blender, or use a more powerful blender like this Vitamix Explorian professional-grade blender.

Ingredients Needed

Frozen Berries – Use a combination of frozen strawberries and blueberries. You can buy bags of frozen berries or freeze fresh berries ahead of time.

Milk – Make this smoothie with your preferred milk, dairy or non-dairy. I like to use regular dairy milk since it has no added sugar.

Greek Yogurt – Plain Greek yogurt is what makes this smoothie thick, creamy and satisfying. For convenience, you can buy individual 5-ounce containers. The more budget-friendly option is to get a big container of yogurt and measure what you need.

Optional Sweetener – I find that the abundance of fruit in this smoothie makes it plenty sweet.

However, if you want it sweeter add in sugar to taste or a sugar alternative. For natural sweetener options, try honey, pure maple syrup, a medjool date, or a chunk of over-ripe banana.

Instructions

  1. Place the smoothie ingredients in blender cup. For both personal cup blenders and high-powered blenders, add the ingredients in this order: milk, frozen strawberries and blueberries, Greek yogurt.
  2. Blend for one minute. Use the smoothie button on your blender if it has one. Otherwise, blend on low for 15 seconds, then high for 45 seconds.
  3. Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired. This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately.

Do I need to use frozen berries for this smoothie?

Most blended smoothie recipes call for at least one frozen ingredient. It makes the smoothie thick.

For this smoothie recipe, I use frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries (because I almost always happen to have a bag of each in my freezer).

But you can make it with one frozen fruit and one fresh fruit.

If you only have fresh strawberries and fresh blueberries on-hand, toss a few ice cubes into the blender, as well. Just be sure to drink the smoothie immediately, since the pulverized ice melts quickly and will water down the drink.

To freeze fresh berries in advance for smoothies: Wash and dry the fruit thoroughly, slice it if necessary, then place in a single layer on a tray in the freezer for about 30 minutes. After the individual pieces of fruit are partially frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe bag. This process prevents the fruit from freezing in clumps.

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe Variations

Smoothies are an easy way to boost your consumption of vitamins, nutrients and protein.

Here are a few ideas to get more of what you’re after. Just keep in mind, some add-ins will alter the flavor of the smoothie.

  • Boost of healthy fats: avocado, cashew butter, almond butter, flaxseeds, chia seeds
  • Boost of nutrition: spinach, kale, seeds
  • Boost of protein: additional Greek yogurt, spoonful of nut butter, seeds, protein powder

How to Make Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Freezer Packs

Smoothies are a great way to start busy weekdays when you’re crunched for time. To save a couple minutes when you’re ready to blend one up, make smoothie packs in advance.

Smoothie packs for the freezer are simply pre-portioned bags of non-liquid smoothie ingredients.

Here are two ways to make strawberry blueberry smoothie freezer packs.

  • Prep individual bags with only the frozen strawberries and blueberries. When you’re ready to make the smoothie, just add milk and yogurt.
  • Freeze Greek yogurt into cubes, and prep bags with frozen yogurt, strawberries and blueberries. If you choose to freeze the yogurt, you must make the smoothie in a high-powered blender, like a Vitamix. Additionally, double the amount of milk added.
