Have you ever had a Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade? It’s a bit like summer in a cup and is ridiculously easy to make right in your own kitchen.
The real deal is a blend of freshly prepared lemonade and soft serve vanilla ice cream. You can think of this dessert beverage as a lemonade milkshake.
Lemon and cream is one of those flavor combos I can’t get enough of and this Frosted Lemonade recipe brings them together with only 4 ingredients.
With a bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar, water and vanilla ice cream, you can blend up your own copycat Frosted Lemonade in minutes!
Why You’ll Love this Frozen Lemonade Drink
Quick and Easy! This recipe only has 4 ingredients–and two of them are sugar and water. No advance prep is involved. Just toss everything in a blender and in 1 minute you’ve got a delicious homemade frosted lemonade.
Money-saving copycat recipe. With restaurant prices nearly $5 per treat (Chick-fil-A calls it a treat, not beverage), making frosted lemonades at home is a real money-saver.
Delicious summer treat for the whole family. Nothing says summer like lemonade and ice cream, and this frozen treat is one the kids and whole family will love.
Ingredients
For the best homemade frosted lemonade, make it with freshly squeezed lemons.
Lemons – You’ll need the juice from about 1-2 large lemons.
Freshly squeezed lemon juice adds lots of vibrant citrus flavor. It’s mixed with sugar and water to make a small amount of concentrated lemonade.
I like to add enough lemon juice for my mouth to pucker a little with each sip.
While you may be tempted to substitute fresh lemon juice with store-bought lemonade, it’s not the same. Bottled lemonade is more watered down than what we’re going for.
Sugar – White granulated sugar is the ideal lemonade sweetener. It dissolves easily and has a neutral flavor.
Water – If your tap water has a funny taste, be sure to use filtered or bottled water. This Brita water filter pitcher is a great solution.
Vanilla Ice Cream – You’ll need about 4 packed scoops of ice cream.
The Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade is blended with their version of soft-serve vanilla ice cream that they call Ice Dream.
Soft-serve has a less fat and more air churned into it than regular ice cream. While you can’t buy a carton of soft-serve, reduced-fat ice cream works well in this recipe.
Full-fat ice cream is perfectly fine too. It’s what I use! Just get one that is mainly cream and sugar and does not contain high fructose corn syrup (yuck!).
How to Make a Frosted Lemonade
This recipe makes a single 16-ounce serving, which can easily be divided into two smaller beverages.
- Combine lemon juice, water and sugar in blender cup. Stir or blend it for a few seconds until sugar is dissolved.
- Add slightly softened ice cream to the lemon mixture and blend. Begin on low speed for 15 seconds, followed by high speed for 30 seconds. If your blender has a smoothie or milkshake button, use it.
- Pour frosted lemonade into cup(s) and serve immediately.

Recipe Notes
- A Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade does not have toppings on it. However, you can garnish your homemade version with whipped cream and lemon zest, if desired.
- For a frosted drink that’s a bit more slushy than creamy, toss a few ice cubes into the blender, as well.
- To keep your frozen lemonade cold longer, serve it in a chilled cup. Simply place cups in freezer for 10-15 minutes.
- Regular lemonade is not a good substitute for the ratio of lemon juice, water and sugar in this recipe. Not much water is added so the lemon juice mixture is concentrated. And not much sugar is needed, since the ice cream is sweet enough.
