Mango Banana Smoothie is a super creamy blend of sweet mango, ripe banana, Greek yogurt and milk. The 4-ingredient recipe is nutritious, delicious and beyond simple to make.

This is one of my favorite breakfast smoothie flavors to get the day going. It’s thick and filling, thanks to the addition of protein-packed Greek yogurt, yet fresh and light.

And it’s a great way to enjoy seasonal mangoes.

What I really love is that this tropical-feeling fruit smoothie recipe is a rich source of nutrients, especially beta-carotene, but feels guilt-free without any added sugars!

Why You’ll Love this Smoothie Recipe

Filling breakfast smoothie – Smoothies are a great breakfast option for busy mornings, and this one keeps you feeling full longer since it has plenty of protein from the Greek yogurt.

Super creamy – Mangoes and bananas are known for giving smoothies a creamy texture, and this recipe has both!

No added sugar – This smoothie gets all its sweetness from naturally-occurring sugars in the fruit, yogurt and milk. Some dairy-free milks contain added sugar, so check your label, if you’re trying to avoid all added-sugars.

Has lots of healthy mango – Vibrant-colored mangoes are rich in nutrients like vitamin C and beta-carotene and high in fiber, making this smoothie a great way to add them to your diet. And…they taste amazing!

A single serving of this mango banana smoothie has 24 grams protein, about 5 grams fiber, and 0 grams added sugar, when prepared according to the recipe.

Mango Banana Smoothie Recipe

This thick and creamy mango smoothie recipe is made in a blender and has just 4 ingredients.

I like to make simple smoothies like this one in my Ninja Nutri-Pro personal blender that doubles as a drinking cup!

You can also use a powerful high-speed blender like this Vitamix Explorian professional-grade blender. Frozen fruit is no match for it.

Ingredients

  • frozen mango chunks – provides flavor, creaminess and nutrients
  • ripe banana (fresh or frozen) – provides flavor, sweetness, creaminess and nutrients
  • plain Greek yogurt – provides protein and thickens the smoothie
  • milk of your choice – thins the smoothie so it’s drinkable

Frozen Mango Chunks – For this smoothie recipe, one of the two fruits needs to be frozen.

I like to use frozen mango since I can keep a store-bought bag on-hand in my freezer.

When this fruit is in-season and cheap, I like to get a bunch, cut them into chunks and freeze for smoothies. (See below for tips on how to do this.)

Ripe Banana – A ripe to overripe banana is what we’re going for here. It gives the smoothie flavor and sweetness.

As bananas ripen, starches turn to sugars, so be sure your smoothie banana has black streaks on the peel.

Plain Greek Yogurt – I’m always trying to sneak protein into my meals, and plain Greek yogurt is an excellent way to accomplish this with smoothie recipes. Plus, it gives the smoothie body.

This strawberry banana smoothie with chia seeds recipe and banana matcha smoothie recipe also have Greek yogurt blended in.

If you’re dairy-free, skip the yogurt and add more dairy-free milk. For extra thickness, use frozen mango and frozen banana.

To replace the protein, add your favorite whey protein powder.

Milk – There are so many milks to choose from, dairy and dairy-free, that the kind you use really is up to your personal preference. I use 2% dairy.

When I opt for plant-based, I love Mooala simple organic almond or oat milk. They only have 3 ingredients–water, almond or oat, and sea salt. I try to avoid oil, gums and added sugars, so this brand is a healthy option.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Detailed recipe and instructions are in recipe card at bottom of post.

  1. Place the smoothie ingredients in the blender cup in this order: milk, banana and mango, Greek yogurt. (If you’re using a personal-cup blender like me, when it’s flipped over after screwing on the blade, the milk will fall to the bottom
  2. Blend for one minute. Begin by using the pulse button, then low, then high until smooth and creamy. Use your blender’s smoothie button if it has one.
  3. Serve immediately and garnish with fresh slices of banana and mango if desired.

Add smoothie ingredients to blender cup.

Blend for one minute. Serve smoothie immediately.

Tips for Freezing Fresh Mango & Bananas for Smoothies

Freezing fresh mangoes and overripe bananas for smoothies is simple.

Cutting mango for smoothies: Mangoes have a large, flat pit in the center. Stand the mango on its flat end, and cut the two fleshy sides off. Score the fruit (see picture below), but don’t go through the peel. Finally, bend the skin back so the chunks pop off and slice each off with a sharp knife.

Cutting bananas for smoothies: Peel the banana and cut it into one-inch pieces. When you’re ready to make a smoothie, use 8 pieces for a full banana.

Freezing the fruit for smoothies: Place cut fruit in a single layer on a parchment-lined tray or plate and freeze for 30 minutes to an hour, then place in a freezer-safe storage container or bag.

Don’t just toss chopped fruit into a bag and freeze! Taking the extra step to freeze individually before dumping in a bag, keeps them from freezing into a solid clump.

How to Make Mango and Banana Smoothie Freezer Packs

Homemade smoothie freezer packs are a convenient and easy way to partially prep smoothies ahead of time.

I find I make more smoothies, and save more bananas otherwise headed for the trash bin, this way too.

To make mango and banana smoothie freezer packs ahead of time, just measure the frozen fruit and put it in a freezer-safe bag. When you’re ready to make the smoothie, simply combine the pre-measured fruit with the liquid and soft ingredients, and blend.

Tropical Mango Banana Smoothie Variation

This smoothie is already like sunshine in a cup, but if you want to give it even more tropical flare, here are some suggestions.

  • Swap out either half of the mango or banana for frozen pineapple.
  • Use unsweetened coconut milk (in a can) for all or a portion of the milk.
  • Add pineapple juice in place of half the milk.
