Starbucks Iced Chai Latte with Matcha Cold Foam
A Starbucks Iced Chai Tea Latte with matcha cold foam is a customized drink that pairs an iced chai latte with a blended topping of vanilla sweet cream and matcha powder.
I first noticed this chai and matcha duo while waiting at the Starbucks counter.
I couldn’t help but ask the person who ordered it if they ever tried it before.
The short version of her enthusiastic reply was that she can’t get enough of this chai latte and matcha cold foam combo and told me I had to try it.
Now, I love iced chai tea lattes topped with vanilla sweet cream cold foam. It’s one of my favorite Starbucks chai tea latte modifications.
And during the fall season an iced chai with pumpkin cream cold foam is my go-to Starbucks order.
As you can see, I tried her drink recommendation.
And it turns out, a topping of matcha cold foam on an iced chai latte is delicious! If you want to give it a try, here’s everything you need to know to order it at Starbucks.

What’s in this Customized Chai Drink
A Starbucks Iced Chai Tea Latte with Matcha Cold Foam has two components: the base drink plus the add-on topping.
1. Iced Chai Tea Latte
The base drink is an Iced Chai Tea Latte. Starbucks makes this drink by shaking together sweetened chai black tea concentrate, milk and ice. The chai tastes of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves and star anise.
2. Matcha Cold Foam
Matcha cold foam is a blend of matcha powder and vanilla sweet cream cold foam which is basically heavy cream and vanilla syrup. While matcha cold foam isn’t listed on the Starbucks menu, it’s really simple for the baristas to make.

What this Secret Menu Chai Latte Tastes Like
If you love vanilla matcha lattes or matcha frappuccinos, then you’ll really love this creamy matcha topping. It’s a decadent mix of sweetened matcha powder, sweetened vanilla syrup and rich heavy cream.
It’s not quite as thick as whipped cream, so it’s perfect for sipping.
And doesn’t that cloud of matcha look amazing?
Each sip is a very sweet and delightful combination of all the warm chai spice flavors and a slightly, earthy matcha creaminess.
How to Order an Iced Chai Latte with Matcha Cold Foam
Foundation Drink: Order an Iced Chai Tea Latte from the menu. The drink sizes to choose from are tall, grande or venti.
Customizations: Ask for a topping of matcha cold foam. Most likely, the barista is familiar with this “secret menu” topping. If they’re not, let them know you you want vanilla sweet cream cold foam blended with one scoop of matcha blended in.
Ordering with the Starbucks App:
It’s not really possible to order this drink with the Starbucks app since there’s not a specific matcha cold foam option.
The app does allow you to add vanilla sweet cream cold foam, as well as a scoop of matcha. However, there’s not a way to indicate that you want the matcha blended into the foam and not into the chai tea latte.
How to Order from the Barista:
“I’d like a (tall, grande or venti) iced chai tea latte with a topping of vanilla sweet cream cold foam with one scoop of matcha blended into the foam.”
Cost to Customize this Drink: An add-on topping of vanilla sweet cream cold foam costs about $1.25 and a scoop of matcha is about .90 cents.
Questions You May Have
Matcha cold foam is not a standard drink topping at Starbucks but as far as customizations go, this is an easy one. Making it is as simple as blending vanilla sweet cream cold foam with a scoop of matcha powder.
Matcha cold foam is a combination of vanilla sweet cream and matcha powder. While you can customize a drink with both these ingredients using the Starbucks app, there’s not a way to indicate that you want the matcha blended into the cold foam instead of the drink. For this reason, it’s best to order matcha cold foam in person.
